“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which means, ‘God with us’.” Matthew 1:23
Emmanuel. God with us.
This communion has always been the desire of God’s heart. Yet sin came, darkened our world, and blurred our vision. We lost intimacy and togetherness with our Father. The love and peace that was wholly ours was depleted, joy fell away, and we were left without hope.
However, the Lord did not leave us in such a state. Into the darkness of night, God spoke and gave us His Word. The promise of a Messiah, a Savior named Emmanuel, would come and be with us. His life would become our light, and it would burn brightly within us.
Then God’s promise became a reality as our Savior and Lord came! He came in hope and peace. He came in joy and love. A promise fulfilled in the birth of the Son of God, a baby in a manger.
This is the study of Advent, of how Jesus, our Emmanuel, came and changed everything.
This Advent, come with us for a 26 day study. Beginning December 1st, we will look at the lives of the nativity cast and also the lives of women throughout the Bible. Through them, coupled with our traditional Christmas carols, we will come to understand the fulfillment of our Emmanuel, through His promises of hope, peace, joy, and love.
In this 26 day study from Reaching Her we will:
Learn about Biblical hope, peace, joy, and love.
Understand the significance of the Advent of Jesus.
See how God redeems sin in our lives.
Begin to live victoriously in the promises of God.
Gain a holistic grasp of the Christmas story and what it means for our daily lives.
Have fresh encouragement from the Christmas Carols that we sing.
O Come, Emmanuel: An Advent Study is designed to help engage with God through His Word, as well as connect and grow within a community. It comes equipped with discussion/discipleship questions to use personally, in a discipleship relationship, or within a group.
